What Is the ESP?
The Environmental Service Pod (ESP) is the first system of its kind to consolidate all required building energy services into a single, modular unit. It can be installed in both new and existing homes.
The ESP provides:
- Heating and cooling for the whole home
- Domestic hot water
- Battery storage to power home appliances and the heat pump
- Real-time monitoring of a personally customised indoor environment
By bringing all of these into one unit, the ESP is significantly more efficient than running each system separately. For example, waste heat from cooling can be used to warm your water instead of being thrown away. Every component has been designed and tested for maximum efficiency with minimal energy waste.
ESP Modules
This particular ESP configuration can run completely off-grid. It consists of six integrated modules:
- MODBUS Control: central system management and monitoring
- LiFePO4 Battery: 7.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate storage
- 48V DC Polyvalent Heat Pump: simultaneous heating and cooling
- 5 kW Inverter/Charger: converts and manages power between solar, battery, and grid
- 220L Hot Water Storage: thermal storage for heating and domestic hot water
- 220L Cold Water Storage: thermal storage for cooling
The Polyvalent Heat Pump
Our heat pump consumes electrical input at an average Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 4:1, meaning for every 1 kW of electricity in, you get 4 kW of thermal output.
But here's the key advantage: this heat pump generates heating and cooling at the same time.
Standard regulation testing only measures one output at a time. When you account for both outputs together, the effective COP is 7:1, making it one of the most efficient systems available.
Design Principles
- Modular: individual components are prefabricated and ready for simplified hookup on site delivery
- Scalable: the system adapts to different building sizes and energy demands
- Consolidated: fewer separate systems means less waste, lower cost, and simpler maintenance
A Staged Approach to Net-Zero
You don't have to do everything at once. Our system is designed to be implemented in stages, each one reducing your energy costs and carbon footprint:
- Stage 1: Baseline: no solar, no storage. Full grid dependence.
- Stage 2: 10 kW Solar PV: significant daytime energy offset.
- Stage 3: + Polyvalent heat pump + two thermal storage tanks: heating, cooling, and hot water from solar.
- Stage 4: + 5 kWh battery: evening energy coverage begins.
- Stage 5: + 10 kWh battery: near grid independence.

Environmental Impact
Drag the slider to see what happens as we retrofit Australia's commercial buildings with the Environmental Service Pod.
Calculations use US EPA equivalency factors + average Australian household energy use (~6.6 MWh/yr). Pilot data: 1,000 m² office = 34.6 t CO₂ avoided / 80 MWh saved per year.
