Common Questions

Solar FAQs for Geelong Homeowners

Straight answers to the questions we get asked every day by homes and businesses across the Geelong region.

How much money will I save going solar?

Savings depend on your household size, energy usage, roof orientation and your electricity tariff. Geelong averages around 4.2 peak sun hours per day, which means a well-designed system can offset the majority of your power bill. On average, our customers see their electricity costs drop by 70-90%. We provide a free consultation with realistic, conservative savings estimates tailored to your home before you commit to anything.

What rebates are available in Victoria?

Victorian homeowners can access the Solar Victoria rebate, which provides a significant discount on the upfront cost of a solar panel system. There are also rebates available for battery storage. On top of that, the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (STC) reduces your system cost through tradeable certificates. As a Solar Victoria-approved retailer, EES handles all the paperwork for you so you get every dollar you're entitled to.

Is it worth getting a battery with solar panels?

For most Geelong households, absolutely. A battery lets you store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it in the evening when electricity rates are highest. It also gives you access to flexible time-of-use tariffs, and with the Victorian battery rebate reducing upfront costs, the payback period is shorter than ever. We'll assess your usage patterns and recommend whether a battery makes financial sense for your situation.

What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP) is a federal government rebate that reduces the upfront cost of home battery storage by around 30% (~$300 per kWh). From May 2026, the program moves to a tiered structure: 100% rebate for the first 14kWh, 60% for 14–28kWh, and 15% for 28–50kWh. It applies whether you're installing a battery with a new solar system or adding one to existing panels. As an approved installer, EES takes care of the application so you get the full rebate without the hassle.

How do I sell excess solar energy back to the grid?

Once your system is installed, you can sign up for a feed-in tariff with your electricity retailer. This pays you for every kilowatt-hour of excess energy your panels export to the grid. Rates vary between retailers, so we'll help you compare options and find the best deal. You don't need to switch energy providers. Most retailers offer a solar feed-in plan.

How long does a solar installation take?

Most residential installations across Geelong, Torquay and the Bellarine are completed in a single day. Larger or more complex systems (like commercial jobs) may take two to three days. From your initial enquiry to panels on the roof, the whole process typically takes two to four weeks, including design, site inspection, permits and installation.

What warranties do you offer?

We stand behind every install with a 10-year workmanship warranty. That covers our labour and installation quality. On top of that, you get manufacturer warranties: typically 25-year product and performance warranties on solar panels, and 10-year warranties on inverters. We only use tier-one products from brands like Enphase, SigEnergy and Tesla, so you know the gear is built to last.

Will solar panels work on my roof?

Most roofs in the Geelong region are suitable for solar. North-facing is ideal, but east and west orientations still produce excellent results, especially with modern high-efficiency panels. We assess your roof angle, shading, available space and structural suitability during our free consultation. If there are any issues, we'll be upfront about it rather than push a system that won't perform.

What happens if I sell my home?

Solar panels are a selling point. They increase your home's Energy Efficiency Rating and are consistently shown to add value to Australian properties. The system stays with the house and transfers to the new owner, along with all remaining manufacturer warranties. Many buyers specifically seek out solar-equipped homes to lock in lower running costs.

Is EES accredited?

Yes. EES is fully accredited through the Clean Energy Council, Solar Accreditation Australia, and is an approved Solar Victoria retailer. We're also a certified installer for Tesla, Enphase and SigEnergy. Our team holds current electrical licences through Energy Safe Victoria, and we're members of the Smart Energy Council. Every install meets or exceeds Australian Standards.

How do you ensure the highest quality installations?

Every system is designed by SAA-accredited designers and installed by licensed electricians. We manage the entire process in-house, from initial design through to commissioning, so nothing gets lost in translation. After install, we monitor your system to make sure it's performing as expected. We're a phone call away if anything ever needs attention.
